Training agreement signing ceremony held Sept. 9
Covington, GA - New jobs are on the way to the Covington area, and representatives from metal fabricating company MISA Metal Fabricating, Inc., Georgia Quick Start and DeKalb Technical College met Sept. 9 to sign an agreement to provide training for the company’s new employees.
Marubeni-Itochu Steel America Inc. (MISA), MISA Metal Fabricating’s parent company, is a fully integrated network of metal processing facilities and sales and service offices strategically located in the United States, Canada and Mexico with liaison offices in South America.
MISA was formed from the merger of the steel divisions of two of Japan’s largest general trading companies – ITOCHU Corporation and Marubeni Corporation. The merger established a global leader in the iron and steel roduct sector.
MISA has grown since its creation in 2001. The name is symbolic of a lean, responsive and flexible company supplying value-added steel and aluminum solutions to customers in the automotive, construction, appliance, food, medical and aerospace industries. It unites the strengths and skills of subsidiaries and affiliates, and it reflects their passion to meet the steel logistics and metal processing needs of their clients.
Quick Start is Georgia’s internationally acclaimed economic development program that provides customized workforce training, at no cost to qualified new, expanding and existing businesses in Georgia. Since 1967, Quick Start has trained more than 600,000 employees through 5,100 projects with a broad range of industries.

The partnership between MISA, Quick Start and DeKalb Technical College will provide cutting-edge training services that will energize the potential of individuals, help improve their lives, and contribute added value to the economic wealth of our community,” said DeKalb Technical College’s president, Dr. Robin Hoffman.
The Quick Start training agreement was developed based on a project study that was conducted at the MISA Metal Fabricating manufacturing facility in Covington, Ga. The training agreement is based on MISA’s commitment to provide approximately 25 new jobs for Georgians in the Covington area. Quick Start will be designing and developing training material, as well as providing instructors for the classes.
The training program involves three distinct partners: MISA Metal Fabricating, Inc., DeKalb Technical College and Quick Start. Each partner will be responsible for the successful completion of this program. The partnership will not end when the Quick Start training is completed; DeKalb Tech will be available to assist MISA Metal Fabricating, Inc., with ongoing training programs.
