An ancient tradition dating back to the 600s is still honored today. When the steel frame of a new building is nearing completion, the construction workers on the project hold what’s referred to as a “topping off” ceremony.
The tradition originated in the Scandinavian countries where the builders wanted to appease the all-powerful god, Odin. The highest beam is put in place after being signed by anyone who had participated the construction at that point.
For the QSAMTC expansion, McKnight Construction Company hoisted the highest beam with a crane draped with the American flag and a banner featuring a rendering of what the finished building will look like.
A major milestone in the construction of the much needed building has been reached.

The Phase II expansion is a stand-alone building funded to provide training support for HMGMA suppliers that aren’t located on-site with the Metaplant.
