Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) building the future
In May 2022, the Hyundai Motor Group announced it was investing $5.4 billion to build a smart factory dedicated to making electric vehicles in Georgia. The state-of-the art facility would be built on a 2,900-acre megasite in Bryan County just a 30-minute drive from the downtown historic district of Savannah, Ga.
In the agreement signed by State of Georgia officials and Hyundai executives, the project would create more than 8,000 jobs in the region, making it the largest economic development project in the state’s history. As part of the agreement, Georgia Quick Start was committed to providing customized workforce training for Hyundai, affiliated companies and a host of supplier companies. Quick Start would design, build and operate an 80,000-sq. ft. training center directly adjacent to the new facility.
To support training for the supplier companies, Quick Start would construct a second building at its Advanced Manufacturing Training Center in Pooler, Georgia.
All the players involved would face unknown challenges to achieve success. This had never been done before.
What is a “Metaplant”? Far more than a smart factory, a conceptual vision of mobility where journeys are measured by more than just mileage, and a new world takes shape.
From safety features to final touches, Quick Start is training future General Assembly Meta Pros so they are ready to hit the production floor on day one.
Quick Start’s team visited South Korea and spent days in discussion with Hyundai Motor Group to develop company-specific training ahead of its megaproject.
An inside look at the future Hyundai Mobility Training Center of Georgia, where Quick Start will train thousands of future Meta Pros and employees of supplier companies.
Hyundai’s Metaplant vision would be a non-starter without its partnership with dozens of suppliers such as Mobis, which is receiving customized training from Quick Start.
Quick Start is continuing its longtime partnership with HYUNDAI TRANSYS, which will now supply powertrains and seating system to both Kia in West Point, Ga., to HMGMA.
